First and foremost, this workshop is for women (and yes my special technology will be checking DNA at the door!) If you are a woman just starting out with your business or a woman who already has a web presence started (possibly by someone else) and you want to be doing better with it, this workshop is for you! Are you a coach or other micro-small-business owner and can’t afford to spend $1000 to get a site professionally designed (which, I might mention you have no control over and will continue to pay a hired web person to make changes for you?). Then this workshop is for you. Basically, this workshop is for any woman who gets a panic attack or stricken with the overwhelming urge to nap when she thinks about learning what to do and how to start taking control of her own web presence. And even though you might be completely freaked out by it, here you are, showing up with a willingness to figure it out because you don’t want the technology gap of where you are now and where you want to be stop you from doing that thing you love and making a real contribution to our world through that service or product you offer.
What will I get out of this workshop?
You’ll get a hand-holding expert to walk you through the steps but also a coach (that’s me) who specializes in helping you greet and transform previously stuck-sticking stuff into “OK, I can take action on this and this and this…” and so you do! And in a very short amount a time, you realize “Hey, I’m crossing that gap. Look at me! I really can do this. I am doing it.” By then end of the workshop, you will have learned tools & skills that you take with you into your life which will support you to help yourself with your business’s growth and expansion plus a confidence that opens up additional horizons. Just imagine once your website is actually up and running (and you created it) how you’ll be inspired to do more with it… like creating a marketing list, offering a product or service, sending out an ezine or noozletter, accepting payments online and even having your clients book time with you from your web site. Did I mention also that this is fun and I’m funny and a little bit crazy?
Which is it I’ll be learning how to do, build a blog or build a website?
Both. Either one. Which ever one you want. I got tricks! I promise to teach them to you step-by-step and they are really not that hard, not geometry or algebra 2 hard. I do have a post that discusses this topic in more detail. But suffice it to say, either one you want, you will learn how to do. And if you’re not sure which one you want, this post will also help you figure it out.
Seriously? You’re going to teach me to build it? How is that possible?
It’s possible because I’ve done this and have been doing this for two years. That means, several other babes likes yourself have successfully completed a workshop and are now on their merrily-web-creating way, getting their tech savvy on and doing that cool thang they love. But here’s the bottom line, if you are comfortable using Microsoft Word, reading email, and surfing the Web, you will be able to create a web page (or entire website, because a web site is basically creating a web page over and over) using the tools I teach you. You don’t need any programming skills or special software. You don’t even need to buy anything extra because the tool I teach you to use is free!
Can I start with a one-page website and build it up into a web site later?
With the tools you’ll be learning, you can have a one page site, or many pages. It’s up to you. You get to decide what you need right now. I promise to help you think about the “typical” stuff you’d find on a website so you can decide if you want that for yours. I promise to give you a plan to help you develop a minimum of 5 blog posts (or pages) or, you can simply focus on creating a simply one-page shingle to hang out on the big WWW and allow yourself to be inspired at what you’ve accomplished. Trust me, that inspiration (as you probably know) is a remarkable momentum builder and in a very short time, you are soooo getting your tech-savvy on. Happy face here!
What else, besides the optional bra & pants, will I need to take this workshop?
All you’ll need is a telephone and a computer, and an Internet connection (preferably Broadband or DSL) that allows you to be online while you are talking on the phone. You will need to be comfortable using a web browser (including switching from one tab to another) and a word-processing program (including basic functions like cutting and pasting) in order to write your web copy. And you’ll need to be able to follow on-screen directions with initial demonstration from me, your tech-savvy babe in charge.
Do I need to do anything ahead of time to be prepared to take the workshop?
Once you register for the workshop, you’ll receive access to a link for downloading a simple Word document with some questions. They are very basic questions about whether or not you’ve ever tried anything like this, if you have a Google account or whether or not you’ve already purchased a domain name (and yes, if you already have a domain name, you can apply it to the web presence you are creating in the workshop; I’ve already written a post with step-by-step instructions on how to do that). None of this stuff is required up front in order to take the workshop, I only ask for it because it will help me do a better job at helping you get your tech savvy on. And just FYI, in addition to the in-session live demonstrations, there will be some non-class time assignments (homework) along with how-to PDF instructions (cheat sheets) to reinforce what you’re learning.
What happens after I complete the workshop? Do you leave me standing there?
Yes of course… just standing there! KIDDING! After the workshop, you’ll have an opportunity to continue getting your tech savvy on in two ways. If the hand-holding group learning thing really works for you, you’ll have the opportunity to take individual 90-minute teleclasses with me and other tech babes. All the same stuff… video, how-to PDF cheat sheets, etc. If, however, you find that after taking the workshop, your tech savviness gets like crazy ignited (which happens, trust me!), you might simply want to teach yourself using one of my self-study, completely downloadable help sessions.
Why do I teach the add-on module thingys separately? Well because this gives you more flexibility to grow your web presence according to your priorities as opposed to teaching longer workshop sessions (which is also a longer commitment for you).
What kind of add-on stuff am I talking about? Things like adding a Paypal button or installing a self-scheduling service so your clients can book your services from your website. You can preview what I’ve got in store for you here.
How much time will I need to set aside each week to do the workshop stuff?
Each week, we’ll spend regular class time together which is about 60-75 minutes of teaching and 15-minutes of Q&A (but it’s not all super precise either). In a few of the sessions there will be interactive exercises. After every session, there will be opportunities for you to “do stuff” (spend time looking at stuff on the web, building your website, answering questions provided in homework, etc. ) Depending on the type of work involved (like asking yourself those deeper questions of what sustains me?), each “thing” has a unique time investment of time/thought/introspection. Suffice it to say, prepare to give yourself anywhere from 30-minutes to 2 hours per week outside our scheduled class time to be in the creation process itself.
Yes! The online classroom environment is not limited by either platform. I work from a Windows-based machine however, one of my most favorite tech savvy clients in the world uses a Mac and she’s gone from taking the workshop to migrating her blog to Wordpress. And the fact that she’s on Mac has not been an issue, whatsoever.
Is this workshop too beginner for me?
By too beginner, I mean that you have worked with some other types of technology in the past to get your website up and running and that you might actually even be comfortable looking at and moving around actual HTML code. Is this workshop too beginner? Heck’s no! The fact that you have some tech savvy already going on will only be leveraged in this class and allow you to do more stuff more quickly & easily! Plus, let me stress this point, any tools you learn here are taken with you into your business owner and now web-creator adventure. Many of my clients actually use this workshop to springboard into tools and services that allow them to do more. And if you’re still not sure and think this class may be too beginner for you, there is always one-on-one tech savvy sessions so we can focus specifically in the area(s) you want to be doing things differently or better.
