And how optimystical does overwhelm.

Let’s face it, the blogosphere is a big and intimidating place when you’re just starting out. The internet provides us access to soooo much information.  It can be overwhelming.

The best way to deal with overwhelm is to break my steps down into ever smaller steps. This helps my focus & clarity. Once I can see, I can generally start moving again. I become still, quieter. And inspiration… the energy to take action, comes flooding in.

Web Presence Essentials 2010

December 9, 2009

A Web Presence. A container for something good, something that is yours. It might be the great food that you cook, or beautiful art that you create or a book that you’re writing. A Web Presence is a smart thing to consider in today’s business economy. In fact, some might say it’s essential.

I’ve taken my Tech Savvy 101 series that talks about the ingredients for creating a web page, web site or web presence; and brought them together to create Web Presence Essentials. A guide to help you through a sometimes intimidating and usually confusing, technology decision-making process. Especially if actually taking the steps to create a web presence is still kinda new for you.

If you’ve been reading my Tech Savvy 101 series, then hopefully you have a good handle on the three critical ingredients that you need to create a web presence. Whether it’s a simple web page or full blown web site, or you’re a  small business owner just starting out or big business generating hundreds of clicks per day, without the three essential pieces (a domain name, hosting and content) there can be no web *anything.*

And since I’ve been talking a lot about how Blogger takes a major portion the headache out of deciding those pieces (plus it’s free), the next big question I get is should I have a website or a blog?

A Domain Name

September 30, 2009

Three critical ingredients go into creating a web page, web site or web presence. No matter where you are on the map… small business owner just starting out or big business generating hundreds of clicks per day, each part is essential and needs to be addressed or there can be no web *anything.*

Ingredient #1: Domain Name

URL. Web address. Domain name. Words we hear nearly every day. But what exactly are they and more importantly, why should you care?

URL stands for “Uniform Resource Locator” and it means the same thing as “Web address.” When you open a browser, like Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, and type an address into the address bar, your Web browser will connect to that address and display web pages created by the owner.

Did you know that if you buy a domain with GoDaddy, you get one free email account with it?

Why is this important for you to know? Well, I hear a lot of requests from clients participants who have gotten their tech savvy on in one of my workshops. They say something like, “I’d really enjoy a more professional looking email address or one that matches my new website!” Example: trade in mynde_mayfield (at) yahoo (dot) com email for mynde (at) myndemayfield (dot) com.

So this post is all about getting your free GoDaddy email activated so that you can plug your new, professional looking email in everywhere on your web presence.
