This post is part three of a short-series inspired by Danielle LaPorte (more about the beginning of that is here.)
I’m curious if you are among some people I’ve been hanging out with and talking to who are feeling a changing tide in how people engage in business.
Gone is the old paradigm of doing whatever you have to in order to please/keep a client. Sorry, I will not stand on my head for you because, I promise, it still will not make you happy!
Instead, one of the big reasons many of us decided to do our own thing, is to call the shots. And be a little more aware of who we are engaging with and why. And making choices from an entirely different place.
While watching two really great conversations about Fear this morning, Jonathan Fields shared three powerful questions he uses to help him diffuse the debilitating side effects of fear. They were:
- What if I fail? (telling a new story about a realistic recovery from the failure)
- What if I do nothing? (often more terrifying than contemplating failure & recovery)
- What if I succeed? (pivoting into hope, because we cannot really come alive when we act from fear)
And then Chris Guillebeau talked about giving yourself permission, (I refer to this as giving yourself permission amnesia).
Have you ever wanted to jump out of a 5-story window instead of facing what you know you need to face in order to get back to your best self?
Well I’m there.
It’s been a very long two weeks since I last posted on my blog. Granted, my creative mojo has been focused on designing web presences for a couple of new clients, I’m finding it’s about all the mojo I can muster up. I have none to spare. The cupboard feels empty.
I am grateful that creativity can be alive and well in my world, even when I’m not writing, but I miss it. A lot.
What is Fear?
It’s a good question. Take moment. And another.
Did you consider “What fear? I’m really not afraid of much.” Great! And good for you. Seriously. Stop reading. The rest of this will bore you. It will no longer be interesting from this point forward.
If, however, you have ever wondered how and what fear is connected to in your life, you are in the right place!
Harder to Ignore
If you look around our world today, fear is getting louder and harder to ignore. Most of the time, some kind of crisis unfolds in our life, calling us inward to be fearless with ourselves. Figuring out how to be happy. Telling our self truths. Truths that sometimes don’t match what others might think is best or better or right or wise or whatever.
