If your friend/relationship doesn’t allow for exploration of difficulties and is so fragile you don’t dare approach conflict, then whether it is a loving friendship must be questioned. ~Brenda Davies
Today’s Daily Inspiration hits home. Many points highlight shifts in several of my relationships this past year.
Like making the decision not to collude (turning a blind eye when you see another self-destructing) at the cost of the people involved or the relationship itself. BIG!
This year, I’ve had the opportunity to ask myself over and over, “Where am I colluding? And with whom?” And then weigh in on the costs and benefits of this behavior.
Social web moment. Did you meet someone you used to only know from her blog? Did you discover Twitter?
Twitter has been wonderful in many ways this year. It’s helped to expand myself and create connection to others I would not have otherwise had the opportunity to create (however, it’s really hard to say for sure when and how we meet people in life).
My top Twitter moments include when @MarkHeartofBiz picked up the phone and called me after tweeting “Ole! Ole! Ole!” (Elizabeth Gilbert speaking at TED)… That was fun.
Or discovering this blog challenge, about writing and gratitude. Thank you Gwen Bell.

Learning experience. What was a lesson you learned this year that changed you?
It’s funny how the things we remember most are the things that hurt us deeply. Leaving a mark on us. Changing us forever.
The topic of change is so critical. It’s the one constant of life. I can still hear my mom telling me, “Life is full of change so get used to it!” when I was 15 and she was leaving. I cried, begged, pleaded. But change won. It always does.

So I got a little behind, which is perfectly OK. I knew when I started this adventure it wouldn’t be perfect. Perfect isn’t the goal. Writing is. So here’s my Mashup of the last few days I’ve missed. Short and sweet.

Word or phrase. A word that encapsulates your year.
2009 was Truthful.
This year I told myself the truth more often. I told others the truth more often. Which, if you know me, wouldn’t be a huge surprise. It’s easy to say some truths. But there are some truths we need to say that make our voices shake and our self-doubt run wild.

Tea of the year. I can taste my favorite tea right now. What’s yours?
Favorite tea this year was Good Earth’s Lemongrass Green Tea. Always on hand are several chai teas and an Earl Grey.
I drink coffee in the morning. Very definitely a coffee girl. With flavored creamer. Hazelnut, in case you’re wondering.

Best packaging. Did your headphones come in a sweet case? See a bottle of tea in another country that stood off the shelves?
I’ve been hanging out on fellow challenger blogs reading about packaging.
Yawn.
I guess it’s just not a natural thing for me to consider the package of something. I guess in the end, it’s not the package I’m interested in.

Best food I’m skipping because I wrote about it in best restaurant.
Best change we made to the place we live. That is an interesting story. Because we did move entirely this year. Always a major life event.
I’ve moved three times in the last four years. All within about a 3 mile radius of where I started out. Weird co-inky-dink? Probably not so much. Probably my life, teaching me again. Spiral-y patterns of lessons attempted until mastered.

The best place. A coffee shop? A pub? A retreat center? A cubicle? A nook?
A Year of Thinking Dangerously
So the whole best stuff feels a little pressure-y today. And hey, I’m just want to mention (mostly for myself) that I have been writing more. Doing this blog challenge thing. Having fun. Meeting interesting people. Easier than I thought. The aha-moments, “Oh yeah, “That’s what I always do. I make it up harder than it’s really going to be. There that is again.” Silly me.
